Culturally relevant, research-based SEL resources matter- especially for black youth. Black SEL Matters Campaign was launched to intervene in these systems disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline through providing needed skills and resources for school communities.
The BlackSEL Matters Campaign features black SEL Practitioners and educators, and aims to educate black and brown communities on what black SEL is, why Black SEL matters, and how we can change the narrative of what SEL looks like for black and brown communities.
Black SEL is about acknowledging the ways that SEL competencies have been present in black communities long before the designation or study of social-emotional learning.
