PANEL DISCUSSION
Black SEL & The Black Student Experience Panel: This panel will discuss the current state of black students in America and their lived experiences through the lens of social-emotional learning. Black SEL is a network of dedicated black leaders and allies that understand the importance of Social-Emotional Learning and are committed to building systems that will sustain these practices in black communities. Social-Emotional Learning Definition (CASEL): SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.
Please note: Students have come to share their voices and beliefs, and we want to ensure this is a safe space for them. We ask that you listen and perspective take on ways that you can relate to and understand our black youth.
Black SEL is a customized approach to social and emotional learning (SEL) that serves as a primary vehicle for cultural transmission, specifically tailored to the experiences, needs, and cultural contexts of Black students and communities.
