In 2020, SEL practitioners united to launch a campaign emphasizing the critical role of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in Black communities. Through this initiative, we successfully highlighted and elevated voices to ensure the sustained impact of SEL in these communities.
Our panel discussions are thoughtfully curated to address the unique challenges faced by students, parents, teachers, and communities regarding Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Featuring panelists and moderators with rich, culturally responsive perspectives and extensive experience in the SEL field, these discussions offer valuable insights. We were positively overwhelmed by the support received for our annual BlackSEL Summits! Each year, many have come out to join the community of like-minded Black SEL proponents and allies. BlackSEL encompasses all of us, and we are thrilled that you have chosen to be part of something as impactful and historic as this movement.
Black SEL is a customized approach to social and emotional learning (SEL) that serves as a primary vehicle for cultural transmission, specifically tailored to the experiences, needs, and cultural contexts of Black students and communities.
